The Brass Cap Convention II

Welcome to the Brass Cap Convention II
PRE-REGISTRATION IS CLOSED
This event is open to everyone and accessible to everyone. If you cannot participate in the Scramble to BCP238 then you can come out later in the day and enjoy the event with everyone else.
A planned celebration of International Geocaching Day on the top of Mount Burke has been listed.
The cache is GC30TD0, IGD at Cameron LO.
The trip to the top of Mount Burke is the highlight of this event cache and is an easy to moderate hike of 4 to 7 hours.
There may or may not be a brass cap at the end of this scramble, Brass Cap 238 - Mount Burke has never been found but we are going to make a good attempt.
The Time Capsule will be hidden after the event but submissions will be taken all day long at the main event table in the Cataract Creek Day Use Area. Everyone is encouraged to make a submission to the time capsule.
There will be a new Brass Cap that we are all sure to find, see the details.
At the end of the day, hot dogs New York style with fixins, chips and drinks. (New York style means boiled dogs)
8:00AM to 5:30PM
A Geocaching Time Capsule for International Geocaching Day
Brian (outforthehunt) has told me that he will be donating his gammon and reel for the Time Capsule,
Thanks so much so much Brian, I hope to be able to personally hand them back to you when we bring the time capsule back.
I am going to add a Version 1 Geobone. I am adding an Original CAC coin with sequential numbers (Coin 567). I am adding a CAC 3jaze geocoin, the silver version with the three j's stamped into the geocoin. I am adding several other items that are valuable today and will age well. The order of your pre-registration for this event will get you a card that will allow you to take items from the Time Capsule when it is opened. Congratulations to Medicine Hat geocacher sfg, his timely registration has earned him first choice of items in the time capsule (the items that are intended as gifts). You have to come back in a few years to collect your prize Drew but a Version 1 Geobone doesn't come along often (or a 3jaze for that matter) The .50cal ammo can is going hidden inside a .60cal ammo can and it will remain hidden until we hit Brass Cap 1000 or until August 20, 2019, whichever comes first. I am encouraging attendees to submit a Letter to Geocachers of the Future using the form provided at the event table.
Geocoins or pathtags or other unique small items that might interest future geocachers will also be accepted.
Space is at a premium in this time capsule so "small is all".
The coordinates of the time capsule will held by several people to ensure it is not lost.
Other special prizes wil be awarded for feats of prediction. What colour is the inside of that .60 cal? How about the Time Capsule, what colour is it inside? What is written on the cache card? These questions will all be answered when we hit Brass Cap 1000 but you have to guess today and of course, you have to keep your interest in geocaching for many years?
Are you game?
8:00AM - 2:00 (3:00) PM
The Scramble to BCP238 - Mount Burke
We will start the scramble at 8:00AM in the morning. If you know your hiking speed will be greater than the main group then feel free to start anytime after that and catch up. We are hoping to make the summit in about 3 1/2 to 4 hours. There will be those who ascend faster and those who ascend slower so several groups will form as the hikes progresses.
There are several caches along the route for those so inclined.
At the summit we will be searching for Brass Cap 238.
We will allow a search time of about an hour.
Wind is almost a certainty on Mount Burke so a windbreaker will make it more comfortable.
The main items are listed on the cache page, try to bring a light snack for energy. Make sure you have plenty of water.
This is bear country, we should be unbothered in a large group.
I am going to leave these times fuzzy by about an hour
Take a look at the IGD at Cameron LO (GC30TD0) to get a comprehensive list of suggestions for this trip. Sleepy_hollow is a very experienced back country hiker and his suggestions are complete and clear.
(3:00) 2:00PM - (4:00) 3:00PM
A New Brass Cap
Everyone will be encouraged to attend and participate in this part of the event.A new Brass Cap target will be located near the main event location.
Forms will be handed out on which you can record your geocaching name, the lat and long and elevation that you acquire for the new target.
The averaged coordinates and elevation of the combined entries will become the listed data for the new cap when it is published after the event.
The cap will be walk that almost everyone can enjoy.
There will also be several new caches in the area.
The new brass cap target has been an adventure. Come by the day of the event just to hear the story! Please contribute a set of coordinates and an elevation for this marker. Please bring and use multiple GPS's to do this, it will help. This will be another great highlight for the day and it is taking some time and preparation. I hope this new cap will be another great memorial for International Geocaching Day
4:00PM - 5:00PM
A NY Style Hot Dog Supper
A New York style hot dog supper at the Cataract Creek Day Use Area. Boiled style hot dogs with fixings of sauerkraut, bacon, cheese, pickles, onions, mustard, relish and ketchup.
Chips and drinks.
It is pot luck for dessert, I am hoping everyone will bring out a few things and we will get a smattering of geocacher goodies.
5:00PM to 5:30PM
Closing The Time Capsule
The time capsule will be closed and sealed at approximately 5:25PM. The final selection of any items will be made if required. Again, please think about making a submission. Think of it as a really good cache that we are all hiding ten years before it gets listed. Small sig items, letters, notes to the future, predictions, almost anything will be good. Be imaginative, you could hide the coordinates of another cache in this capsule, things like that. Everyone at the event will be encouraged to sign the log book that we place in the time capsule, so there will be at least a log book page from each of us to the future.
5:30PM
Wrap Up and Good Travels
Time to head for home. There are still several hours of daylight left so a safe drive home should be the highlight for all of us.
